How to clean up your camera roll month by month
Updated October 2026 · 3 min read
Ten thousand photos feel impossible to sort. A single month, with a few hundred, takes ten minutes. That's why reviewing month by month works.
Why months work
- Each month is a small, finishable task.
- Photos from the same trip or event sit together, so it's easy to pick the best ones.
- You can see your progress and come back where you left off.
Doing it in the Photos app
In Photos, the library grid can be grouped by Months and Years. Open a month, tap Select, pick what to delete and tap the trash button. It works, but nothing tracks which months you've finished.
Swipe through months with Emberoll
- Open Emberoll and tap By month.
- Pick a month. It shows how many items and how much space it holds.
- Swipe left to delete and right to keep. Undo any swipe with the arrow button.
- When you finish, confirm once. The month is marked as reviewed.
Start with the newest month, while you still remember why you took each photo, or with the biggest month to free the most space.
